ComEd is one of the largest electric utilities in the country, delivering power to more than four million homes and businesses across Chicago and northern Illinois. It's part of Exelon, a Fortune 200 company that serves nearly 11 million customers through six regulated utilities.

ComEd does a lot more than just keep the lights on. Since it began its smart grid investments in 2012, it has improved overall reliability by more than 70 percent, preventing about 21.7 million customer interruptions and saving over $3.8 billion in avoided outage costs. It's been named the most reliable electric utility in America by PA Consulting, with fewer and shorter outages than at any point in the company's history. That kind of performance comes from ongoing work in grid modernization, infrastructure investment, customer programs, and the use of data to make energy delivery smarter and more efficient.

During my internship, I worked within that larger ecosystem, using research, economic analysis, and data to evaluate programs and support business decisions.
